Opportunity: this singular idea both served as our theme for the year and energized us as we accomplished great things together during the 2023–24 school year. As you'll see in the following Annual Report, it was a year in which our students thrived and inspired us, and their success was, in no small part, made possible by the generosity of our donors. In fact, contributions last year gave our Latin Learners the opportunity to explore their interests, pursue their passions and make lifelong connections. So, thank you for being transformative agents in the lives of our students. Opportunities were abundant for Latin Learners as they dove into STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) activities. Through new offerings, Upper School students studied aquatic environments near Latin and around the city. In Middle School, our eighth grade students participated in their annual Shark Tank competition to design mock apps that would help improve global advocacy efforts while other Middle School students participated on our Science Olympiad team. SK and fourth grade students engaged in a host of design challenges through their participation in Engineering Amigos. The arts were more popular than ever, from the sought-after After School Resources offerings (dance, martial arts, digital photography) in Lower School to the successful production of "Shrek the Musical" to the always awe-inspiring senior showcase in our Latin Gallery 2. It was also an extraordinary year for Latin's dedicated and passionate student- athletes. The varsity boys basketball team had a historic run as they clinched Latin's first-ever basketball IHSA sectional championship. Other Romans excelled at the state level in diving, track and field, tennis and golf. Our Lower School students continued to engage in our Rising Romans program, which offers an introduction to sports such as baseball, basketball, cross country, soccer, softball and volleyball. Our youngest athletes capped off the year by showcasing their talents at the annual Greenwood Games in Lincoln Park. Finally, our Middle School and Upper School students logged more than 4,000 service hours in support of the work being done by organizations such as Cradles to Crayons, the Greater Chicago Food Depository, Bernie's Books, the Alliance for the Great Lakes and the Chicago Housing Authority's North Orchard Place. Not only did these efforts benefit our broader communities, they also gave our students the chance to reflect on the importance of justice, equity and what it means to cultivate empathy and compassion for others. Opportunities like the ones you'll see throughout this year's Annual Report are only possible because of our Latin community's commitment to philanthropy. Your sustained investment in the Latin Fund, your generous contributions to Romans Raise & Revel in support of financial aid and your gifts to countless other initiatives make certain that all Latin Learners have access to a purpose-driven education that will pave the way for a lifetime of success.
