LANGUAGES Latin's language program helps students develop into motivated language learners and global thinkers. Students in the Lower School learn Spanish beginning in junior kindergarten, while students in the Middle and Upper schools have the choice of learning French, Latin, Mandarin or Spanish. HEALTH AND WELLNESS Latin provides students with the assistance and support they need to become successful, independent learners. The systems and resources we have in place to help us achieve this important goal include: • Counselors (two in the Lower School and four in the Middle and Upper schools) who advocate for all students. • Middle School homerooms and Upper School advisories that help students navigate academic or social challenges. • Nurses who provide immediate emergency care, perform health assessments, work with families to help children with chronic medical conditions and educate the Latin community about health issues and practices. EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING One of the hallmarks of Latin's proud tradition of academic excellence is our strong commitment to providing all students with access to valuable experiential learning opportunities. This commitment to hands-on learning is represented by the makerspaces and Math Labs we have in all three of our divisions. It is also reflected in the division- specific opportunities that are available to students. Below are a few examples of these opportunities. • Lower School—annual JK Art Museum; yearly fourth grade oil spill cleanup project; field trips (JK through fourth grade) that align with the curriculum and leverage the Chicago area's vast resources. • Middle School—Project Week; passport experience for fifth graders that promotes self-advocacy; science and computer science unit that features seventh graders working together to build robot hands. • Upper School—Project Week; simulation of the Nuremberg trials as part of the Nazi Mind class; global exchanges to Spain and South Africa. COLLEGE COUNSELING Latin's College Counseling program prepares every student for success in college and beyond. The office has four on-site staff members who support students and their families with personalized one-on-one counseling beginning junior year. There is also programming for each specific Upper School grade level that helps students prepare for and navigate the college planning process.
