G O Y O U R O M A N S Connor Kaniewski '17 is an Alumni Board member who contacted classmates for the Challenge. He acknowledged that recent alumni might not have a lot of disposable income. However, he noted that gifts of any size have an impact. "We had alumni give five, 10 or 15 dollars," he said. "The fact that these alumni gave means they think positively of Latin." Jenny Cizner '95, on the Board of Trustees and a former president of the Alumni Association, was also involved in the Challenge. Cizner relished the opportunity to rally her classmates to donate. She echoed the idea that gifts of all sizes matter. "It really is about engagement and participation," she said. Alumni Step Up with #GoYouRomans Giving Challenge Started in 2015, the #GoYouRomans Giving Challenge has evolved over the years, according to Teresa Sutter, Director of Alumni Programming and Archivist. The Challenge now includes all alumni and takes place over 48 hours, mostly on social media. One of the highlights for this year's challenge was the delivery of green pens and jelly beans to faculty in honor of Dr. Richard Dolezal — a fun incentive proposed if 70 alumni donated during a specific time frame. Dr. Dolezal corrected papers with a green pen — for him it was the color of hope — and was known for his stash of candy in his office. "This was a way to honor [Dr. Dolezal's] legacy and share with new teachers a little bit about this beloved faculty member," Sutter said. 343 D O N O R S $ 80,000 CO N T R I B U T E D 48 H O U R S Alumni giving has been part of the fabric of Latin for many years and 2021-22 proved to be a banner year for the #GoYouRomans Alumni Giving Challenge. If 300 alumni made a donation to financial aid in 48 hours, a group of generous alumni would donate an additional $30,000 to financial aid. That goal was bested when 343 donors contributed more than $80,000 in 48 hours. L AT I N S C H O O L O F C H I C AG O 14
