L E T T E R S F R O M L E A D E R S H I P Dear Latin Community, The 2020-21 school year will stand out among all others for years to come. Amid the uncertainty, fluidity and anxiety of a global pandemic and a social justice reckoning, Latin was forced to reimagine every aspect of the school experience. Throughout, we have kept our values and focus on the health and safety of our community at the forefront. Our strategic work for the year was focused in two areas. The first was on reinventing how we deliver on our promise of educational excellence. It included mastering new technologies, engaging outside experts, bringing on new people, establishing new protocols and pivoting--again and again. It included wearing masks, keeping a safe distance, and hosting outdoor graduations. I will be forever grateful to our faculty, staff, students and families for their patience and perseverance through it all. Our second area of strategic work was focused on the experience of our students of color. By identifying institutional goals for diversity, equity and inclusion, we have made clear the things that are both urgent and important when it comes not only to supporting underrepresented identities, but also to moving forward together in ways that will allow for healing and growth. Sustaining growth in any area would not be possible without the generosity of this community, because it empowers our school year after year. Parents/guardians, faculty, staff, alumni, parents of alumni, grandparents and friends all see Latin as a place worth investing in. Thank you. Similarly, Latin is fortunate to have a group of volunteer leaders who make Latin a priority, including our board of trustees, led by David Koo. I am deeply grateful for their vision and strategic partnership. At Latin we take pride in the fact that we are always learning, and that was never more true than in 2020-21. The lessons from this year made us stronger in new and different ways. We also learned that at times of great change, some things can remain constant: Our shared values of excellence, community and integrity saw us through every challenge and remain at the heart of all we do. Gratefully, Randall Dunn Head of School "Sustaining growth in any area would not be possible without the generosity of this community, because it empowers our school year after year."
