INSIGHTS AND LESSONS • Despite quite a difficult year, the commitment to DEI work across all constituencies remained strong. • We prioritized DEI professional development with our faculty/staff as they continued to support students/families. • We learned about more challenges that our community members faced, both inside and outside of the school, that helped us to expand our reach. DEI Commitment from Latin's Board of Trustees The Latin School of Chicago board of trustees understands that strategic leadership of the school requires collaboration and communication. Faculty participation on the Academic Program Committee, the Co-Curricular Program Task Force, the Strategy & Data Committee and in long-range planning efforts like LEAD and Facilities Master Planning are critical to maintaining their connection to and alignment with the board's expertise. They are also eager to participate when the invitations come from the other direction — like having trustees engage in school committees like the Council for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. This presence, in addition to the full board participating in learning opportunities with the DEI team, creates space and time for the perspective-taking needed for trustees to understand what is needed so faculty and staff can continue to give their very best to the students. The board is also committed to recruiting and engaging diverse and talented trustees and to building a board that is consistent with Latin's stated goals to create a diverse and inclusive student population. This position as a board is based on the desire to preserve all they have built by working in partnership on so many important initiatives. A N N UA L R E P O R T 2 0 2 0 – 2 1 1 7
