"Latin is an amazing school. The faculty has the integrity and capacity to show the students and even their families how to live each day by using the school's mission as their guide to life." – Survey Respondent OUR VALUES As you will see, the values listed here have been adjusted and tweaked since our survey in February. Keep in mind, we assert that these values hold true not only for Latin students, but for the faculty, alumni, parents, trustees and the institution itself. These values are both aspirational and factual. We care deeply about them and believe in them. These are the things we hold dear. They do not take the place of our mission statement, but rather supply the "reason why" behind it. Excellence • Our students develop the skills, knowledge and desire to solve complex problems through a global, liberal arts curriculum and master teaching. • Our students identify their passions, learn to advocate for themselves and become architects of their own education. • Our school promotes physical and emotional wellness because they are essential to the pursuit of academic excellence and our happiness. Community • We support and celebrate one another, and take responsibility for our words and actions, because we shape the lives of others in our community. • We embrace diversity within our school and in Chicago, knowing that it deepens our learning and enhances our empathy. Integrity • We use our resources wisely in order to be good environmental stewards. • We are honest, fair, and fulfill the commitments we make, building a culture of respect and mutual trust. • We give our best effort, take intellectual risks and learn to persevere. • We reflect and live with purpose, working toward goals that embody our genuine interests. Editor's note: Just before this magazine went to print, the Board of Trustees voted to accept the Strategic Plan at the final meeting of the school year. The plan will be published for the start of the 2013-14 school year. LATI N SCHOOL OF CHI CA GO 5
