been busy starting a new business, which will involve doing foreclosure "clean-outs" as well as repairs and maintenance. And finally, my "fun" business involves selling a line of sterling silver jewelry called Silpada Designs, which I sell individually, through home parties, vendor shows and fundraisers. Needless to say, it is quite a juggling act. Fortunately, I get to spend time with my good friend Harriet McSweeney and her beautiful daughter, Carla. I still stay in touch with Cathy Berkson Boyce, Sandi Katter Weiskirch, Mary Spada Binder, Richard Kim, Lauren Weinper Cummings and Ilia Theodossis Macdonald '82. I can be contacted on Facebook or through the Latin Alumni site. I still have fond memories of running off to Mitchell's for a grilled cheese on Greek toast with my friends and concocting some excuse to get an "extension" on a paper that was due! Sue Goldin passed away on June 21, 2009 after a 12year battle with cancer. "She fought cancer for so long and put up one of the most remarkable battles that she became nothing less than a true inspiration to everyone she touched," said her husband, Dan. We extend our deepest condolences to her friends and family. 1985 Reunion Year Laura Levin Jordan Cyril "Tommy" Mowatt Scott Norton and his wife, Kara, celebrated the birth of a daughter on September 29. Scott reports that "Dylan Blair Norton has both the great looks and personality of her mother." Hans Shrader visited Latin this summer while on holiday. Hans writes: "It was really good to be back – it brought up some priceless memories. During the tour, I heard that Coach Bower is the Director of Athletics. Passing by the administrative offices on the way to the middle school I saw Ingrid Dorer-Fitzpatrick and Dr. Dolezal's office. It is good to know that there is some continuity. I think this continuity raises Latin from a school to something more of a community. I have been living out of Chicago since just out of college and out of the US since 1997, yet there is always a feeling of closeness and community when I think of Latin. It is a special place. Since 1998 I have worked for the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation (the part of the World Bank Group that does private lending in developing countries rather than the sovereign lending for which the Bank is known). My work is mostly focused on legal and regulatory reform related to improved governance, e.g. improving government accountability, efficiency and transparency especially in business regulation and licensing. I've helped to create financial infrastructure like credit bureaus and reduce the time, steps and costs to starting a business. The work is a lot of fun if not only for being near one's clients and working in different cultures. I am currently living in Jakarta and working here and in the Philippines. A few years ago I was living in Sarajevo and Belgrade and working with the newly sovereign countries of the former Yugoslavia. I met my wife, who is an Okie (Tulsa), while she was living in St. Petersburg. Leesa was a member of the US Junior Women's National Soccer team. It looks like we will be moving to Beijing in December, but send my best to all." 1 1 Marianne Landa Chao, Laura Van Straaten, Kristen Walter and Gina Schmelling-Gloanski (all '86) getting in quality catch up time this past summer Latin School of Chicago 49
