up front Leadership Awards ıThe Shipp Outstanding Educator Award Mary Jo Houck The Shipp family presents this award annually to the member of the faculty who best represents the ideal of independent school teaching through excellence in classroom instruction, demonstrated concern for the healthy development of students, and extensive and valuable activity on behalf of the school as a whole. ıKaren Sue Berger Community Service Award (faculty) Emily Warren Karen Sue Berger was a kindergarten student at Latin School who died of Cystic Fibrosis in 1965. The award is presented in her memory by the Sally and Miles Berger Family Foundation to a student and faculty member in recognition of their outstanding contributions in community service. ıEdwin S. Van Gorder III Award Elizabeth Chow and Georgy Ann Peluchiwski This award was established by the Alumni Association in honor of Dr. Edwin S. Van Gorder III, who served as Latin's headmaster from 1969 to 1973. It is presented to the member of the Latin community who has demonstrated extraordinary service to Latin School through volunteer effort and devotion. ıParent Association Service Awards Each year the Parent Association honors faculty and staff members who are celebrating milestone anniversaries at Latin. This year, the Parent Association wishes to recognize Eve Alexander, Timothy Cronister, Jesus Flores, Lourdes Gonzalez, Susan Heglin, Marko Hrstich, Enrique Naranjo, Armenta Porter, Melissa Rice, Timothy Sheehan, Shandor Simon, Stephanie Stephens and Robert Wellen, who have been at Latin for 10 years; Jane Donovan, Tracy Franklin and Michael Teolis, who celebrated their 20th year at the school; Isidro Cabral and Marsha Dragonetti for 25 years at Latin, and Robert Giosh and Warren Hawley for 30 years of service. ıParent Association Volunteer Service Award Joyce Greenblatt and Jan Bail This award recognizes exemplary service on behalf of Latin School. This year, the Parent Association would like to extend its thanks and appreciation to those who have gone far beyond the call of duty in their volunteer efforts on behalf of the school over the years. ıAugustus K. Maxwell, Jr. Award Shandor Simon The Alumni Association presents this award in honor of the late Gus Maxwell '37, who served as president of the Alumni Association from 1966 to 1979. The award is given to the member of the faculty, staff or administration who has demonstrated extraordinary support, loyalty and devotion to the Latin School community and who has rendered such outstanding service as to make a lasting impact on the school. 8 Latin Magazine
