Dear Latin Community, We began the 2019-20 school year with the optimistic energy and momentum needed to implement our newly articulated vision and strategy, Latin LEADS. Our four multifunctional teams for Learn, Engage, Advance and Develop launched a work process that allowed for a comprehensive unpacking of each element in the plan to identify the action steps necessary to propel us forward. Our theme of together represented how we hoped to engage in our work, as well as the overall outcome we wished to achieve—to be a truly inclusive community that operates with time and space for all voices, perspectives and ideas. We had no way of understanding the very different meaning together would take on as the year progressed. I am grateful for the faculty, staff, parents/guardians, alumni, parents of alumni, grandparents and friends who proved that being loyal and true does not only apply during the best of times. Thank you for continuing to make Latin a priority. Special gratitude to the entire board of trustees for their service, and, in particular, Board Chair Georgy Ann Peluchiwski whose four years of dedicated partnership will be present throughout our school for years to come. Nine months into this pandemic, it is now clear that "the new normal" in education is something that is yet to be defined. That work presents possibly the greatest challenge Latin has faced in its 132 years. Together, we will find not only the new normal, but the excellence our mission promises. With thanks, "We had no way of understanding the very different meaning together would take on as the year progressed."
