Dear Latin Community, Over the course of 131 years, Latin's identity has evolved and grown from a small, neighborhood school to a diverse community of learners with global impact. Our ability to thrive is, in part, based on our willingness to adapt while maintaining what is essential to the Latin experience. Our new Strategic Design, launched in September, affirms our aspirations for our program, our people, our physical space and our place in our city and our world. It is reinforced by a vision statement that provides a foundation for how we will achieve all we have planned. Our vision states that we aim to make learning, "...inquiry-based, personal and inclusive" which signals an important shift in our efforts around diversity, equity and inclusion from siloed endeavors to integrated elements in every area of the plan. Our commitment over the last few years has grown our understanding and investment in this work, especially in that it begins with a deep understanding of individual identity. Here, we share more about how we are engaging in these topics with internal structure, curriculum in all divisions and education for all Latin Learners (see "Latin Frames Diversity for the Twenty-First Century," pg. 20). e 30th anniversary of the magnificent High Jump program (see "irty Years and Still Rising," pg. 26) is further evidence that inclusion is not just what we do, but who we are. I am so grateful for the foresight of the founders of that program for allowing us the opportunity to be a part of it and to support its amazing growth. Latin is a much richer place because of what the students and staff of High Jump bring to our campus each day. Our vision and strategic choices challenge us to make the best aspects of Latin's identity even more enduring. As we step into this new decade, I am confident our work will propel us not only for the next five years, but the next 30 and beyond. Sincerely, Randall Dunn Head of School LATIN MAGAZINE ยป WINTER 2020 3
