It's time to bust out your boathouses and return to Lincoln Park to reunite with all your fellow Romans! We've been working tirelessly with the Alumni Office to plan a weekend full of engaging and entertaining events including a cocktail happy hour, LGBTQ alumni event remembering Jeff Windus, and of course, a day full of Roman sporting events at the Homecoming Romans Run event! Reach out to your former classmates and friends as we celebrate the school and community that made us into the people we are today. – Hannah, Erich, Eugene, Quintin, Caroline, Nadja, Chloe, Chloe, Maddy and Caroline. Camden Olson has been awarded a ReachOut 56-81-06 fellowship from Princeton to support a year-long public service project. Camden will be working to develop standards for medical alert dog training and performance with the nonprofit Dogs4Diabetics, headquartered in Concord, CA. Camden has trained dogs and conducted research for Guiding Eyes for the Blind, the Penn Vet Working Dog Center, Canine Companions for Independence and the Arizona Canine Cognition Center. Her senior thesis project had her raising and training a diabetic alert dog, Koa, who also has his own Instagram @koatheservicepup. 16 17 2015 John Buchanan Miya Coleman Kate Guynn Chris Quazzo Brian Lorenz has been awarded a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship. Brian will graduate from Pomona with a double major in physics and mathematics in May and will be pursuing a PhD in astrophysics at UC Berkeley to study how quickly distant galaxies are forming stars, to help reveal how galaxies change over the lifetime of the universe. Frani O'Toole has been awarded a Fulbright Scholarship. She will be pursuing creative writing in Ireland after graduation from Yale. 2017 Maat Bates Grace Coberly Maddie Cohen Deon Custard Jake Milner Layla Passman Gavin Siegel Zyana Slade-Bridges Alden Sulger Harrison Rogers summited Mt. Rainer in the fall and was fortunate to land a 250-pound sturgeon this spring. 18 19 FACULTY/STAFF ALUMNI Steve Sommers Former fourth grade teacher and Language Arts and Social Studies Coordinator Charlie DiMaggio passed away on March 19 due to complications from pneumonia. Charlie was a graduate of Transylvania University and a Fulbright Scholar. Affectionately known to his many students as Mr. D., his love of teaching and sincere affection for his "kids" were his passions and joys. His love of travel over the years took him to Egypt, Japan and Europe. Always supportive of children, Charlie was a contributor to e Child Fund International and other nonprofit organizations to help the homeless and those infected with HIV and AIDS. Charlie was preceded in death by his life partner and friend Ken "Jerry" Simms. We are grateful for Charlie's many years as part of Latin's community. LATIN MAGAZINE » SUMMER 2019 45 18 19
