In September of 2018, Jaffer visited Latin and spoke to upper school students about her path and "Taking Action," which was the school's theme this year. She talked to the students about her career path and how she started experimenting with leadership positions in high school, like putting her name in for the ECCO editor position. She encouraged the students to at least try for similar leadership roles. "If it doesn't work out, you can always try something else," she said. She noted that the confidence she gained at Latin from her leadership roles led her to apply to Georgetown University, where she attended the School of Foreign Service as an undergrad. As for those interested in elected office, Jaffer's advice is simple. Start small, getting on local boards and committees. "Not only can you be informed about politics, you can actually shape politics, especially at the local level, in a very real way," she said. Regardless of whether politics is of interest or not, Jaffer is a big believer in the power of stating intentions in order to manifest goals. "If you have an idea, put it out there in the world. Start talking to people, and you'll be surprised what resources are actually out there to help you achieve your goal." Jaffer is appreciative of how Latin fostered her strong sense of self as a teenager. "I'm very grateful for the education that I received at Latin and how it set me on my way," she said. "I hope to see more alums getting into politics. It's an important space for us to use the advantages we have and serve our communities." " Not only can you be informed about politics, you can actually shape politics, especially at the local level, in a very real way."
