UPPER SCHOOL PROJECT WEEK 1: Rock Climbing and Canyoneering Adventure in Moab, UT—This project was chock full of outdoor education with students rock climbing, canyoneering and learning ethical camping skills along the way. 2: Pottery—Students spent the week mastering key skills for shaping clay and created projects using simple shapes like cylinders. 3: Ka moana, Ka'āina, Ka poʻe: The Ocean, The Land, The People — This was an exploratory trip for the students to delve into the culture, religion, history and environmental sustainability through the unique lens of Pacific Islanders. 4: Become a Top Chef—Students devoured cooking techniques from the pros, and then used those skills to create their own meals and participated in a Top Chef Latin competition. 5: Board Game Design—Designing a board game is no easy task, which students learned first-hand in this experience where they studied the history, math and design of board games in order to develop and create a new game of their own design. 6: Mindful Chicago—With the week focused on wellness and mindfulness, students got to experience a wide variety of yoga styles and methods, including vinyasa, bikram (hot), restorative and aerial yoga. 7: Introduction to Fly Fishing—Students visited Denver to learn the basics of casting, reading the river and entomology. 8: Art and Anatomy—Students learned about the skeletal and muscular systems of the body and used that information to help them best represent the body in two and three dimensions. 9: Baldwin's Paris: Exploring Black American Voices Abroad—Many Black American writers moved to Paris as a creative sanctuary in the 1940s, and students got to explore their journey on this trip. 10: Exploring Marine Life of Southwest Florida—Students learned about animals and plants that make their homes in the coastal habitats of Southwest Florida. 11: "Crash Course" in Bicycle Maintenance—This project gave students the opportunity to give their bikes a full overhaul. 12: The Art of Leather: Designing and Crafting Custom Wallets—From wallets to shoes, students researched, designed and created their own leather goods..13: Spain Exchange—This newest linguistic exchange opportunity offered Spanish language program students a chance to immerse themselves in Spanish culture. 14: Trinidad: A Cultural Experience—Students engaged in the Trinidadian experience through touch points with elementary students, local experts and unique cultural perspectives. 15: Cedar House, Cape Town—Students were immersed in South African culture and history and stayed with a host family in this global exchange. 16: Sea Turtle Ecology—On this adventure, students assisted with a census of leatherback sea turtles in the Pacuare Nature Reserve and were active collaborators in international marine conservation efforts. 17: Poetry of Place: Yorkshire—On this excursion, students explored York, England, a city with Saxon, Roman and medieval roots, while also recognizing the importance of place and space through poetry. 18: New Silk Road, China—This Chinese language program trip allowed students opportunities to see the country as well as practice speaking Chinese with students from Taizhou No.1 High School. 6 2 5 7 4 1 3 Upper School Project Week 10 AROUND SCHOOL
