Dear Latin Community, One of the most important things I've learned during my time at Latin is that education must continually evolve to remain relevant and valuable in our ever-changing world. Latin has never been afraid of change. In fact, our motivation to continually get better is one of our greatest traditions. It is part of what has made Latin excellent for every generation. is issue of Latin Magazine presents examples of how we are evolving the student experience and ensuring that our alums are prepared to meet the complex challenges and opportunities they face in the world beyond our doors. Whether it is shifting how we think about, teach and learn math in the lower school (Singing the Praises of Singapore Math, page 22) or allowing new spaces to inspire new modes and methods of learning, (Not so Common Learning Space, page 28), Latin utilizes the best academic research, expertise and data to inspire and thoughtfully implement change. It is the most important work we do at school, and the most complex. Proof of our success is our featured alum, Ezra Miller '15 whose unique skills have made him a sought-after business partner and collaborator (Ezra Miller '15 Makes Art with Code, page 30). He is a millennial example of the liberal arts in action…someone who fluidly integrates art, science, technology and business. He has achieved Latin's educational promise of equipping our students with the ability to transfer knowledge to skill. One of the best parts of my job is seeing students grow and change over the years. It is thrilling, surprising and humbling. I feel the same about Latin. e last 130 years have seen tremendous change in our city and our world, and Latin has kept pace. Although what we teach, how we teach and perhaps even why we teach may evolve, the impact of a Latin education remains excellent and enduring.
