Duck into lower school teacher Meghan Smith's
first grade classroom during math on any given day.
You likely will see students working individually or in partners.
Some will be counting on their fingers. Some will be working with
magnetic cubes. And it will be a bit noisy because the students
will be talking to each other, thoughtfully but enthusiastically.
Forget about how you learned math, probably in a quieter
classroom with the teacher leading the lesson.
