Having a block schedule is life-changing. Every day is different, and it builds free periods, advisory periods and club periods into your schedule. Because Latin cares about student wellness, we alternate every other day between 8 a.m. and 8:25 a.m. starts, and can reliably count on at least one, sometimes two, 10 a.m. sleep-ins per eight-day cycle. is is huge. Finally, let me dispel the myth that the bigger the school, the stronger its sports program or theater program or academic decathlon team or insert your passion here. With nearly 500 students in the upper school, Latin is big enough to support excellence in any interest or talent. But, it is small enough that every single student can make the team, be cast in the play, lead the club, solo in the show or write the byline. When I came to Latin, one of the last things I ever thought I would experience was winning the state championship as a sophomore on the varsity soccer team. I also never thought I would perform improv on stage, learn about feminism through Latin's Alliance for Women, or start a Ping-Pong club. Whether you play water polo, write slam poetry, build robots, whatever you do, you can do it to the highest level or just for fun at Latin. Your experience here is limited only by your imagination. I know this is overwhelming, but let me assure you, no matter where you go, this exercise of thinking about who you are and who you want to be is important. We are lucky to have options here in Chicago. If Latin becomes your home, I promise, you will never regret your choice. And however you come in, you will leave here transformed.
