Athletics Fall Season 2018 Highlights CROSS COUNTRY Both boys and girls cross country teams advanced to the state meet together for only the fourth time in school history. e girls finished sixth in the state after being ranked 16th entering the meet. Both teams won regionals and the girls won sectionals as well as the conference for the sixth year in a row. Harry Wood-Prince '22 set a new freshman record for the three-mile at 15:53, and Ryan Hardiman '22 (#5) and Will Benford '22 (#8) joined him in Latin's top 10 freshman list. Both Marianne Mihas '21 and Ava Parekh '22 broke the school record, with Mihas now holding the new record for the girls three-mile. GOLF e girls golf team finished in second place at the sectional, qualifying the whole team for the state final tournament. Braving the cold, snow, sleet and wind in downstate Decatur, the team finished sixth in Illinois: a tremendous accomplishment as girls golf has been a varsity sport at Latin for only three years! VOLLEYBALL e girls volleyball team and all-female powerhouse coaching staff went undefeated in the Independent School League (ISL), 8-0, and won regionals, sectionals and super sectionals without dropping a set. e Romans achieved their first-ever program victory against the Spartans from Wheaton St. Francis, 25-18, 25-18, to win super sectionals for the second time in three years. After two competitive matches against Althoff Catholic and Joliet Catholic at state in the 3A Class, the Romans placed fourth in the state. is was their second state appearance in program history (competing in the 2A Class in 2016). Charlotte Cronister '18 earned AVCA All-American Honorable Mention. e team ended the season with a 35-4 record with eight players returning next year. SOCCER After finishing the season undefeated and winning the conference championship, boys varsity soccer moved into post-season competition and won the regional (five years in a row!). In the sectional round, Latin lost to St. Ignatius College Prep 2-0, ending their season with a 21-1-1 record. Jonah Schenk '19 earned both IHSSCA All-State (second in school history) and UCA All Midwest (first in school history) honors. AROUND SCHOOL 20
