L E T T E R F R O M T H E H E A D O F S C H O O L Dear Latin Community, What a difference a year makes. In October of 2017 we announced to our community that we were launching the most ambitious enhancement of our physical space in more than 10 years in addition to acquiring a significant new property. In a year with leadership as a theme, we led by doing what has always been most essential to Latin: creating the conditions for educational excellence for our students now and in the future. A year later, the new upper school Learning Commons is a welcoming, dynamic and innovative learning space that accurately reflects the type of teaching and learning we value most. As a place that was designed with student wellness, engagement and inclusion in mind, it has also brought to life the four strategic priorities that have provided the foundation and inspiration for our work over the last five years. Looking ahead, the 1547 N. Dearborn property presents more opportunity for us to thoughtfully consider how our physical spaces can complement and contribute to our vision of educational excellence. Achievements like these are possible only through incredible commitment and generosity. As parents, faculty, staff, alumni, parents of alumni, grandparents and friends, you continue to foster the culture of philanthropy that is the beating heart of this community. I am beyond grateful. I feel the same about our volunteer leaders who understand fidelitas, not only as a motto, but as an invitation to serve. I extend my thanks to the entire board of trustees, especially my trusted partner in leadership, Board Chair Georgy Ann Peluchiwski. John F. Kennedy is quoted as saying, "Learning and leadership are indispensable to each other." This year I have learned that shared values are equally indispensable to lead, thrive and endure. As we conclude Latin's 129th year, excellence, community and integrity continue to propel us forward. They are the foundation of all we do and remain our standard for how we do it. My deepest thanks, Randall Dunn Head of School "You continue to foster the culture of philanthropy that is the beating heart of this community." Latin School of Chicago 2
