Beginning in third grade, students can participate in Rising Romans, which is the feeder program for middle school interscholastic sports. The program provides students with intensive skill development and exposure to intramural competition. Students can choose to participate in cross country (fall), basketball (winter) and volleyball (spring). Middle School The middle school program focuses on skills building, participation and giving students an opportunity to explore various sports. Being part of the athletics program in the middle school gives students the opportunity to play interscholastic sports, and introduces them to using their skills and knowledge in game situations. Upper School Latin fields 44 teams in 14 different sports in the upper school and approximately 80 percent of students play on a team each school year. Every season Latin athletes compete successfully at conference, sectional, regional and state levels. At Latin we believe that sports present many opportunities for teaching important life lessons. CAPTAIN'S COUNCIL Each season team captains are required to participate in the Captain's Council, a mentoring program that focuses on building leadership skills. POSITIVE COACHING ALLIANCE Latin is an active partner in the Positive Coaching Alliance out of Stanford University which promotes sports as a positive, character-building experience. ATHLETICS DAY OF SERVICE The Athletics Department plans a day each season to allow athletes to perform community service with local organizations, schools and community groups. IRON ROMAN AWARD This award is presented to seniors who have participated on an athletic team every season for all four years of high school for their commitment as student athletes.
