STUDENT WELLNESS AND SUPPORT STAFF At Latin, student wellness goes beyond the classroom. Our school provides the following on-site support staff available to all students: » Five Counselors » Advocate for Students of Color » Eight Learning Resources staff members » Middle School Wellness Teacher » Two Registered Nurses » Athletic Trainer » Upper School academic advising Concussions: Impact on Learning Latin takes a proactive stance on concussions for all students — not just those on the playing field — with a concussion policy created in partnership with the Concussion Legacy Foundation. Latin's parents, teachers, coaches and nurses are leading the way for a deeper understanding of this all-too-common injury, which can have an influence on learning and emotional health. In a school environment, the effects of a concussion — both physical and emotional — can create academic challenges. When a student suffers a concussion, we are all on the same team. We [the nurses] are there for medical/health needs. The teachers are there to provide academic accommodations. The counselors are there to help with emotional issues. We're all invested. — Jill Yacu, upper/middle school nurse An Alumni Perspective… Because of the learning resource teachers at Latin, I fell in love with learning. Because of their support, I never felt like a failure, even when I didn't do so well on a test or paper. I learned the power of hard work and determination and, most importantly, that it is okay to ask for help. As an educator now, I know how important it is to stress these qualities. I learned from my teachers at Latin that doing your best really means something and I want my students to know that too. Experience Latin | 7
