CHESS » On March 11, Ryan Zhang '29 won rst place in the K–1 group at the Illinois State Chess Championship with a perfect performance, winning seven out of seven games. GEOGRAPHY » Ryan Rose '23 was one of 100 students across Illinois selected to compete at the Illinois State Geography Bee Tournament at Illinois State University on April 6 after becoming Latin's school champion as well as taking a qualifying test. ROBOTICS » e upper school Robotics team was the captain of the winning alliance that won the Chicago League Championships on February 10 before competing at the FIRST Tech Challenge World Championship in Detroit in April, where the Romans (below) were one of six nalists (out of 128 teams) to receive an award recognizing robots with an innovative design. e middle school Robotics team came in rst place in the Skinner North Regional in December and participated in the state competition in January. SCHOLASTIC BOWL » On March 10, the upper school Scholastic Bowl team won the 2A IHSA sectional tournament to advance to state for the rst time ever. Ana Pranger '18 was selected for the 2A 2nd team All-Sectional and 2nd team All-State. SCIENCE OLYMPIAD » e middle school Science Olympiad ventured to the University of Illinois on April 21 to participate in the state competition, where they nished in seventh place overall and received rst place in the trial events, Pentathlon and Write It Do It; third place in Meteorology; and fth place in Microbe Mission. SPELLING » Jaden Fellows '24 won the Chicago Regional Spelling Bee and competed in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. in May.
