1. Chicago Classical Music » Industry professionals, including musical directors, conductors and working musicians, engaged with students on the current, and very much thriving, classical music culture in Chicago today. 2. Middle Eastern Culture and Cuisine » In addition to a hands-on culinary experience that taught students to prepare a Mediterranean meal, the group explored Middle Eastern culture through museum visits, dance lessons, movies and poetry. 3. Poetry of Place: Florence » Students explored Florence, a city in Italy filled with rich and layered history and steeped in literary and artistic tradition, along with day trips to Siena, once Florence's largest competitor in the region, and San Gimignano, a Tuscan hilltop town dominated by tower homes designed to signify wealth and power. 4. Chile: Place, Memory, and Identity » From their base in Santiago, students fanned out across the Central Valley to see the Pacific Ocean the way Pablo Neruda did from his home on Isla Negra, climbed the hills of Valparaiso, and walked the coastline of Viña Del Mar. 5. Ka moana, Ka'ãina, Ka po'e: The Ocean, The Land, The People » The trip offered students a special opportunity to explore identity, equity and environment through the unique lens of Pacific Islanders by partnering with local schools and the University of Hawaii. 6. Art and Anatomy » Students learned about the skeletal and muscular systems of the body and how to represent the body in two and three dimensions. 7. Oregon Climbing Adventure » Students hiked in picturesque Mt. Hood National Forest and rock climbed in the serene beauty of the high desert of Smith Rock State Park. 8. Exploring Marine Life of Southwest Florida » By getting into the natural habitats of animals — including alligators, manatees, dolphins, sea turtles, tortoises, crustaceans and mollusks — students gauged the successes and challenges of wildlife living along the Gulf Coast. 9. Giving Kids the World » The group volunteered with multiple child-centered Florida organizations, with the majority of time being spent at a village for children with life-threatening illnesses.
