Richard Oldenburg, longtime director of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, passed away on April 20 in Manhattan. Dick oversaw blockbuster exhibitions of Picasso, Matisse and Cézanne and a transformative expansion that doubled MoMA's exhibition space in the 1980s. Dick was a publishing executive when MoMA hired him to run its publications department in 1969. A Harvard graduate who served stateside with the Army as a battery clerk, Dick moved to Manhattan, where his brother, renowned pop-artist Claes Oldenburg '48, introduced him to the art world. We extend our condolences to Claes and all of Dick's family and friends. 1954 Dr. Marianne McDonald writes: "I am still busy with rescue dogs, and I also rescue peacocks. I am still teaching at 81, but I think I'm down to my last three Ph.D. students: One is writing on Japan and two on Ireland, one of which includes animals as representations of the colonial occupied. I also run meetings to try and help the drug and alcohol aicted. (I founded the McDonald Center in San Diego to help deal with these problems; loving people back to health and happiness.) As for happiness, I am happy with my ve children and nine grandchildren. I am trying to simplify and see what is really important in my life. I am so grateful to Latin School and the wonderful education they gave me, particularly Francis Lovett in my English class and Lucy Brokaw in Latin." 1957 Bill Haddad 2 Alan Orschel and his sister Lynn '60 celebrated together this spring and send their greetings. 1958 Steve Heineman Sherry Sandel, John Eshoo, Jay Edelston and I have planned our 60th reunion for the weekend of September 28.
